Tips for New Online Students

Karen Carlson is a current MBA student here at Webster.  She shared this, in our Online Student Commons, to students taking online class for the first time:

“This is my second online class. I have a full time job, two school aged children, 2 dogs and a husband who has a full time job. Life is busy!

I find the flexibility of taking an online class a real advantage. What I mean by that is that you can build your study schedule around other aspects of your life as opposed to having to sit in a classroom for an evening or two.

The professors are approachable and have always addressed questions promptly. I work well independently and find the online forum meets my needs. In person classes are really good too. However, the discussion boards are a real way to stay connected with your peers. I find that I learn a lot from reading others posts. The diversity of thought and ideas shared is one way to connect with peers in an online forum. ”
